We raise all of our own Pigs

Traditional Farming Methods

We get unbelievable satisfaction from seeing our pigs living in their natural habitat. There is no better sight than a 1 week old piglet with it’s snout buried in the ground.

All our piglets are born into a free range environment. We have no restrictions on our sows as they farrow, and we offer our piglets a safe area within the farrowing pen. We keep our piglets inside with their mother for one week so they can build a bit of body condition to negotiate outdoor living and be too big & strong for ‘Mr. Fox’ to eat !!.

We offer approximately one sixth of an acre for each lactating sow, while the piglets have a full 3 acres to play with (they are harder to fence into paddocks)

Each sow/piglet paddock has:

  1. A constant supply of fresh water
  2. A straw bedded ark
  3. A scratching post
  4. A creep area for food and water for the piglets
  5. A fresh paddock full of bugs, roots and grass (most of the time)

When we wean our piglets , they are moved to the weaner paddock to begin independent living. We have a play area in our weaner paddock to keep them stimulated. They have a constant supply of feed and fresh water from here on.

We are constantly evolving our pig infrastructure. Our goal is to group our pigs by size so they can all have the same opportunity to have a stress free happy life while they are here.

Our biggest philosophy is that happy pigs make fantastic meat! Happy pigs need to live to the standard of the 5 freedoms and have plenty of stimulation in every day/area of their lives.
